How it works Setting Up With the bottle lid unscrewed (so you can put your drink in), the flexible neck assembly screws into the lid spout. The adjustable bottle holder comes with instructions and a hex tool. Using the tool, adjust the clamp so that it fits onto your wheelchair, bed-frame, or any comparable fixture you would like the bottle holder to be attached. Bite Valve One of the Giraffe Bottle's unique features is the inclusion of a bite valve. With the bite valve in place, your drink won't retreat back into the bottle after taking a sip. Keeping liquid primed and at-the-ready makes staying hydrated a breeze. The bite valve also allows you to control the flow, and when you're not taking a drink, liquid won't leak out. If the bite valve isn't necessary for your application then simply remove it - it's that easy! Three Different "Neck" Types Tower XL Neck The Tower XL neck is what you're viewing right now, and is designed for individuals with full lung and mouth functioning but who have little to no use of their upper body, such as those living with quadriplegia. It has a black hard outer modular hose that will hold the straw in place however it is positioned, and it utilizes a bite valve, which keeps the liquid in the straw and allows the user to control the flow. Keep in mind that since the bite valve is removable, it can present a choking issue for individuals without full mouth control. Tower Standard Neck The Tower standard neck is the original Giraffe Bottle neck. It has the same black hard outer modular hose as the Tower XL that will hold the straw in place however it is positioned. However, the straw is smaller than the Tower XL, and it is designed for individuals with mild to moderate reduced lung functioning. Instead of a bite valve, it uses a removable check valve inside the bottle that keeps liquid in the straw after the first sip. Journey Neck The Journey neck is designed as a less expensive alternative for individuals with limited upper body mobility. The Journey neck does not have the hard outer modular hose, so it is much more flexible. It has a small clothing clip to assist in positioning, and is best for individuals with partial paralysis, amputees, or people who are recovering from surgery and/or are in physical therapy recovering from an injury. Insulated Stainless Steel Our stainless steel bottle keeps cold drinks cold for 18+ hours and hot drinks hot for 10 hours. The Giraffe Bottle Flexible Neck Assembly Lid and Drinking Tube Insulated Stainless Steel Bite Valve Tips The Bite Valve is primarily designed for thin drinks such as water or soda. Thicker beverages could clog the bite valve opening, stopping it from being watertight. These beverages include: Juices with pulp Ice-blended beverages (Smoothies, ICEEs, Frappuccino, etc) Viscous drinks/foods - such as yogurt. Partially Gelatinated Non-Dairy Gum-Based Beverages Shakes IMPORTANT: Since the Bite Valve is removable, it can present a choking hazard for young children and individuals without strong mouth function. Please use caution when using the bite valve. The standard size Giraffe Bottle Tower utilizes a check valve that is inside the bottle instead of a bite valve in the mouth, making it a better choice for individuals that may have trouble controlling their mouths. Get your drink on - and keep it on. It is important to remember that the height of the bite valve relative to the bottle dictates how much suction is needed to take a sip. • If the bottle is a couple feet lower than the bite valve, more suction is required - the liquid is being drawn up against gravity for the height of the straw. • If the bottle is at about the same level as the bite valve, taking a sip will require little suction. • If the bottle is higher than the bite valve, no suction is required - once the bite valve is bitten, water will flow freely, siphoning out of the bottle, until the bite valve is closed. Keep this in mind when setting up your Tower XL. Other tips: • The Giraffe Bottle should be cleaned before each use. • The bottle, bottle lid, and lid gasket are dishwasher-safe. Hand-wash the drinking tube in warm soapy water using the included tube brush. Soak bite valve in warm-soapy water and rinse. • We recommend the drinking tube and bite valve be replaced every month if used daily. Four Different Holders Round-Tube Mounted The Giraffe Bottle Aluminum Bottle Holder with Round Tube Clamp is our standard bottle holder for the Giraffe Bottle Tower necks - all Tower kits are available either with or without this holder, and it is also available separately. It features an adjustable clamp that attaches to both horizontal and vertical tubing from 0.75" to 1.25" in diameter - which is most wheelchair and bed rails. Rail Mounted The Giraffe Bottle Aluminum Bottle Holder with Rail Mounting Bracket is designed to be attached directly to the accessory rail of power chairs. It works with both double-track rails like those on Permobil chairs, and single-track rails like those on Quantum chairs. Mounting bolts and nuts are included along with instructions. This bottle holder is available separate from the kits. Desktop Base The Giraffe Bottle Desktop Base is made of fabricated steel and weighs over 3 pounds. It's made to keep your Giraffe Bottle on a desk, table, counter, or any other flat surface. It features high-quality pads both on the bottom to keep the base in place, and on the top to keep the bottle in place, and is available separately from the kits. Slide-under The Giraffe Bottle Slide-under Cushion / Mattress Bottle Holder can, as the name implies, slide under mattress, cushions, and other surfaces to hold your Giraffe Bottle (and other bottles) securely. Since the bottle holder simply slips in and out, it can be removed and repositioned effortlessly. To have your bottle higher or lower, the aluminum bottle cage can be flipped on the L bracket with the tip pointing up or down depending on your requirements.
